Forrest Keeling is committed to ‘restoring the earth’s ecosystems one tree at a time’. But that pledge involves sustainability as well as growing the best native trees. That’s why we began using the innovative Root Pouch growing containers.
Root Pouch containers deliver real growing advantages that lead to healthier plants. And these advantages are in line with our patented RPM-production technology.
First, the grey, fabric pots are made with a 250g/m2 natural fiber blend. The natural fibers draw water to the pot from the surrounding soil. This reduces the need to water plants as often as with traditional fabric bags. The pots allow the plant’s root mass to breathe while boosting water absorption. The breathable pot extends our air root pruning, which creates dense fibrous roots. The breathability also helps prevent root circling.
Next, its superior insulation keeps plants warmer in winter and cooler in summer. This temperature modulation increases a plant’s number of active growing days.
Third, these pots save fuel with their efficient design. The Root Pouch allows us to load up to 15% more plant material per truckload than the same-size plastic.
Finally, the Root Pouch is in harmony with our commitment to sustainability. Every Root Pouch is made from 100% recycled materials. Root Pouch fabric is made of used plastic bottles that otherwise go to landfills. Recycling the plastic saves petroleum and fossil fuels. The bottles, made of PETE (polyethylene terephthalate) are melted into a sterile liquid state. The liquid is spun and mixed with recycled cotton fibers to create a geotextile fabric. This fabric is BPA-free and UV-resistant. It is available in four versions. Each lasts for years in direct sunlight or buried underground before degrading harmlessly.
Forrest Keeling began using the Root Pouch just two years ago. In that short time, we’ve saved the equivalent of nearly a quarter million plastic bottles! We’re proud to be part of Root Pouch’s accomplishment: saving over 41 million water bottles from landfills every year. Making us all a growing part of the solution for “clean air, pure water, and renewed earth”.
